Many years ago,  I recall happening upon a book about St. Malachy and his prophecy of the popes.  Malachy’s cryptic list haunted me, because it had a very definite end.  The final pope in his list was to be a harbinger of not only the end of the papal system, but the end of everything.  Knowing little to nothing about the papal system at that time, I managed to put the creepy prophecy out of my head, until earlier this year when I heard about Petrus Romanus.
Cris Putnam and Tom Horn have written an exhaustive book that explores St. Malachy’s prophecy, and what it reveals may change the way you look at the Vatican and the men who inhabit those famous halls.  Within their book Petrus Romanus: The Final Pope is Here, Putnam and Horn unravel the secrets hidden in history, prophecy, and an ancient religious order that may uncover more about our future than our past.
Having already given interviews to major media outlets like Coast to Coast am, I was humbled that Cris Putnam (visit his website at logosapologia.org) was gracious enough to take the time to answer a few questions for the Extraordinary Intelligence audience.
This is one of the most fascinating topics we’ve covered here on E.I., so without further delay, I bring you 10 Extraordinary Questions With… Cris Putnam.

1.  Cris Putnam, I am so pleased you agreed to talk to us here at Extraordinary Intelligence! Let’s start with an introduction.  Tell us a bit about yourself.
It is an honor to be invited! Right off the bat, I would like to say that I find my identity and worth in Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice. I take John 15:5 quite literally because, without Him, I am truly nothing. I know the reality of spiritual hopelessness and depravity. I was a product of the 1980s although my affections lied in the rock bands of the 1970s like Led Zeppelin.  I was enamored by the occult worldview associated with that music and lived my life accordingly. God preserved me through some extremely trying times.  My testimony is that God extends grace to anyone who will repent and offer themselves as a living sacrifice (Rom 12:1).
I changed directions academically from a music scholarship to computer science until I finally came to the realization that I wanted to pursue God with all of my heart and mind. Accordingly, I have a rather unusual Bachelor of Science degree in multidisciplinary studies: Mathematics and Religion.  I recently earned a Master of Theological Studies from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and a certificate in Christian apologetics from BIOLA University. Currently, I am studying Biblical Greek and Hebrew at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary as well as taking some Biblical theology with Dr. Michael Hesier at MEMRA institute.  I am currently planning to pursue a doctorate at Columbia seminary.  They allow you to design your own program and I am planning a program dealing with prophecy and apologetics (with a paranormal focus) through the lens of a Biblical worldview.
2.  How did you meet Tom Horn and what convinced the two of you to write Petrus Romanus?
Tom and I developed an internet relationship via email because he often linked to various essays I posted on my website.  Tom issued a letter to Christian leaders concerning the subject of Transhumanism, expressing his concern that time was running out on adding our input to the discussion. I took his call to arms seriously and wrote a paper for my then current Systematic Theology seminary course: The Doctrine of Man: A Critique of Christian Transhumanism.  Tom ended up publishing that in a compilation called Pandemonium’s Engine, a book featuring himself, Chuck Missler, Michael Bennet  (aka Dr. Future) and many other well-known Christian authors.  Of course we both have a strong interest in prophecy and took notice that a 900 year old Catholic prophecy was nearing its end and no one was saying much about it. God really seemed to have His hand upon the initial research because we discovered some astonishing and unexpected facts. We decided to write a book about it together.  Tom is a successful writer with a large following so it was a wonderful opportunity for me to get some exposure as a writer.  I am grateful for the opportunity.
3.  Who was St. Malachy and what exactly is the “Prophecy of the Popes”?
Malachy O’Morgair was the first Irish saint to be canonized by a pope. He was born in Armagh in 1094 to a noble family and well educated. He was a celebrated church reformer who was the Archbishop of Armagh. Several miracles were attributed to him as well as a vision of the popes.  As the legend goes, in 1139 Malachy experienced what is today considered a famous vision commonly called “The Prophecy of the Popes.” The prophecy is a list of 112 Latin verses (e.g. Cross of Romulus, Insatiable beast) predicting the succession from Pope Celestine II to the final pope, Petrus Romanus. The Abbé Cucherat tells us that St. Malachy gave his manuscript to Innocent II to console him in the midst of his tribulations, and that the document was secreted in the Roman Archives.  According to some, it remained hidden until its discovery in 1556 by a Vatican librarian named Panvinio, it seems to be mentioned in the 1570s but it was not published until 1595. Although there’s a good deal of controversy over the prophecies prior to the date of publication, no one disputes that it was in print by 1595. Accordingly, the fulfillments, post publication, are hard to explain away.  It seems to have a supernatural fingerprint.
4.  The full title of your book is Petrus Romanus: The Final Pope is Here.  Who is Petrus Romanus and what can we expect when he comes to power?
Petrus Romanus is Latin for “Peter the Roman,” whose reign is prophesied to end with the destruction of Rome. According to this ancient prophecy, the very next pope (following Benedict XVI) will be the final pontiff, Petrus Romanus or Peter the Roman. The final segment of the prophecy reads:
In the extreme persecution of the Holy Roman Church,
there will sit Peter the Roman, who will nourish the sheep in
many tribulations; when they are finished, the City of Seven
Hills will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his
people. The End.

This ending applies to the very next pope and is quite suggestive, to say the least. The city of seven hills is a transparent reference to Rome.  The principle of embarrassment seems to apply. By that I mean that when a source testifies in a way contrary to his own interest (e.g. a Catholic predicting the destruction of Rome) it usually infers authenticity.  For this reason, we argue that Petrus Romanus is the biblical false prophet who has “horns like a lamb, yet speaks like a dragon.” It also connects quite neatly to “Mystery Babylon, the Great Harlot” seen in the book of Revelation, specifically notice Rev 17:9 which connects to Rome by mentioning the seven hills. For me the most conclusive connection is that at the peak of the Roman empire, AD 90 when Revelation was written, “the great city that has dominion over the kings of the earth”(Re 17:18) was necessarily Rome. This seems to match the Malachy prophecy quite neatly to the book of Revelation.  Finally, one of the greatest Catholic theologians of the 20th century, Hans Urs von Balthasar, identified the “Whore of Babylon” as the Catholic Church in a provocative essay “Casta Meretrix,” so I am well justified in this conclusion.

5.  What is the significance of the year 2012 when it comes to this prophecy?
In the course of researching the prophecy I translated a book by a Belgian Jesuit, Rene Thibaut, The Mysterious Prophecy of the Popes (1951). Over sixty years ago, Thibaut derived the ominous date of 2012 by calculating the average length of papal reign up until the time he wrote his book circa 1950 to be eleven years. I verified his math and extrapolated to our current time. Astonishingly, the average of eleven has held true to three decimal places. For this simple derivation, allowing the average of eleven years per reign and a total of forty popes (11 x 40) he extrapolated 440 years from 1572 (1572 + 440) to arrive at the date for the arrival of Petrus Romanus in 2012.
In other words, 2012 was seen as an end-times “event horizon” by at least one Jesuit priest before most readers were born. He mentions the year 2012 over 24 times in his book and calculates it in some rather fantastic ways. I explain a few of these in our book Petrus Romanus. Why? In 1950, no one was talking about the Mayan calendar, he must have believed it.  He died in 1952 and his book is obscure. It is now well into 2012 and we do see quite a lot controversy and political infighting in Rome with the Vatileaks scandal, perhaps in anticipation of a conclave. Might it be the final one?
6.  In your opinion, who are the likeliest candidates for Petrus Romanus?
This is a mystery and I am only speculating. Our first choice is Cardinal Tarcisio Pietro (Peter) Bertone, who was born in Romano (the Roman) Canavese (“Peter the Roman”). Among other things, Cardinal Bertone is second in command at the Vatican. As the Secretary of State and the Pope’s Camerlengo (Italian for “Chamberlain”), he is responsible during a papal vacancy to serve as acting Head of State of the Vatican City until “the time of agreement” and the election of a new pope. Italian journalists have reported that the he is the target of the Vatieaks scandal, so it looks like there is a concerted effort to diminish his chances.  Obviously, he could win in spite of all of this.
Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, from Ghana, is seen as a possibility by some. He was summoned to Rome to lead the Vatican’s justice and peace office and was instrumental in the recent promotion of a world financial authority.  Another suggestion I see bandied about is Francis Arinze. Arinze wrote a book Religions for Peace: A Call for Solidarity to the Religions of the World which has transparent prophetic implications. If either Arinze or Turkson is elected pope, he would not be the first African pope, but he would be the first African pope in more than 1,500 years. The prospect of a black pope from Africa has captured the imagination of Catholics and non-Catholics all over the world.
From left to right: Tarcisio Pietro Bertone, Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, and Francis Arinze.
7.  One section of your book goes in depth about occultism in the Vatican.  What are some of the most disturbing things you’re aware of that have happened/are happening in the Catholic Church, particularly within the Vatican?
Well there was a nasty affair known as the Cadaver Synod.  Pope Formosus (r. 891–896) had political opponents in northern Italy. When Formosus died, his opponents secured the election of Stephen VII (r. 896–897), who hated Formosus with a passion. Pope Stephen VII dug up his departed predecessor nine months later and held a bizarre tribunal. He adorned the rotten corpse in full papal regalia, placed him on the throne, and proceeded to interrogate him while an altar boy sheepishly served as the deceased defendant’s voice. Pope Stephen charged Formosus with taking office under false pretenses and declared all of his papal acts and ordinations invalid. After he was condemned as an antipope, his fingers used for blessing were cut off and his malodorous corpse was unceremoniously pitched into the Tiber River. Within a year, the fickle tide of political favor went back out and Pope Stephen VII was snatched up by a mob, arrested, and strangled.
Pope Sylvester II and the Devil c. 1460.
It is also a matter of record that during Pope John XII’s reign, overt papal Satanism infected Rome’s infrastructure. In the Patrologia Latina, an enormous collection of ancient manuscripts, it was recorded that, “All clerics as well as laymen, declared that he had toasted to the devil with wine. They said when playing at dice, he invoked Jupiter, Venus and other demons.” Pope Sylvester II (r. 999–1003), born Gerbert d’Aurillac, was reputed to have studied occult lore while a young man in Seville. As the legend goes he had lived there with a practitioner of the black arts who possessed a grimoire which could subdue the devil to its masters will. As the account goes, he stole the book and made a pact with the devil, trading his soul to become pope. This finds an astonishing parallel in the modern era and the astonishing assertions of the Jesuit scholar Malachy Martin.
Ten years before something “pulled his feet” out from under him while he was preparing for an exorcism causing a fatal fall, Martin had become increasingly outspoken about pedophilic Satanism at the heart of the Vatican throughout the College of Cardinals and all the way down to local parishes, which he said were in league with a secret Masonic diabolicus that began following the “enthronement of the fallen Archangel Lucifer” in the Roman Catholic Citadel on June 29, 1963. This horrid rituale, as Martin had called it, had two primary objectives: 1) to enthrone Lucifer as the Prince over Rome; and 2) to assure the sorcerous inception and embodiment in flesh of that immaterial spirit that would fill Petrus Romanus. Martin wrote that this enthronement was specifically aimed at the “transformation of the papacy itself” in to a willing instrument of the Devil to usher in the “the New Age of Man.” This is from a Jesuit scholar no less and is all painstakingly documented in our book.
8.  My personal belief is that Marian apparitions are not of God. Your book touches on some information about the Fatima Prophecies.  Can you give a bit of background as to what allegedly happened at Fatima and why it may relate to Petrus Romanus?
There is simply no doubt that something supernatural occurred at Fatima, there were hundreds of witnesses, but I believe the events of Fatima have much more in common with the UFO phenomenon than biblical Christianity. In the course of my research I discovered direct parallels between the Marian apparition and various new age occult practices.  Jacques Vallee argues that the force appearing as UFOs has appeared throughout history, operating as a sort of “control grid” that has transformed and molded human affairs, often quite profoundly. Vallee demonstrates, I think conclusively, that the miracle of Fatima was a hybrid manifestation, appearing in part as a religious phenomenon and in part as a classic UFO encounter.  There is a lot of controversy in Catholic circles because the church appears to have concealed the real “third secret” and substituted a decoy. While that implies they are afraid of revealing something in the authentic prophecy, it doesn’t concern me a whole lot because I think the whole thing is likely a manipulation from the powers and principalities.
9.  Prophecy is not the only subject of scholarship for you. Your website, logosapologia.org, is full of fascinating information and details much of your study in eschatology.  A very interesting section on your site is called “Exodus Evidence”.  If you don’t mind me switching subjects, I’d like to know what is some of the most compelling evidence you’ve come upon that confirms Biblical history?
Since the enlightenment, there has been a supernaturally inspired disinformation campaign by Satan to undermine the Bible. For instance, liberal scholars will argue that King David never existed, that he is just a Jewish legend. However in spite of this demonic disinformation, archeology has confirmed the Bible over and over. For example, the Tel Dan Stele, discovered in 1993, contains an Aramaic inscription with the letters ‘ביתדוד’ which the majority of archaeologists agree refers to “House of David.” This stele has initiated a paradigm shift in Biblical studies. Many theories based on 19th century German higher criticism are being rethought. Being that there are still fringe scholars that attempt to cast David as a mythological construction of the post exilic Jewish mind, this evidence is of paramount importance. It simply cannot be overstated the monumental position that the contemporaneously renamed “House of David Stele” occupies amongst the evidence in Biblical archeology. But it isn’t all limited to the past, we live in unprecedented times.
I think the reformation of modern day Israel and the survival of the Jewish people is one of the most compelling evidences confirming Biblical history.  The prophet Isaiah wrote back in the seventh century BC “In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that remains of his people, from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the coastlands of the sea.” (Is 11:11) While liberal scholars try to make this a past event, it is demonstrable that Israel was never gathered from those listed areas at any other time in history until the modern gathering which is ongoing. We are living during an unprecedented time of prophetic fulfillment which I believe will focus on Jerusalem with the battle of Armageddon: “And on that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn. On that day the mourning in Jerusalem will be as great as the mourning for Hadad-rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.” (Zec 12:9-11) This is in the Hebrew Bible and dates before Jesus walked the earth, notice the pierced Messiah!
10.  Thanks again Cris for taking the time to discuss your work with our readers! In conclusion, please tell us about any projects you have in the works, where we can find more information about your work, and where E.I. readers can get their hands on Petrus Romanus or any other items you’d recommend.  God Bless!
Again, it was my pleasure. The book Petrus Romanus is available at Barnes and Noble and Amazon.com but I am going to offer a special on the book Petrus Romanus for EI readers. If you order the book from me at my website, I will autograph each copy plus you get a data DVD which contains over 20,000 pages of documents which we reference in the nearly 700 footnotes within.  We make some startling assertions so the book is painstakingly documented.  The data DVD has material you cannot acquire anywhere else.  This will be a first come first serve offer until my supply of books is exhausted.
I recently shot some interviews for the History Channel (a new show which should premiere this Fall) and for a Canadian show I Prophesy  that should be on in the Winter. Also, I am in a documentary on Transhumanism that will be released sometime in the next year.
